Custody Evaluation

Supporting Families with Compassionate, Evidence-Based Guidance

Custody evaluations are a vital service that help courts, parents, and legal professionals make informed decisions that prioritize the well-being of children during separation or divorce. As a licensed child psychologist, I provide comprehensive custody evaluations that are objective, developmentally informed, and centered on the best interests of the child.

What Is a Custody Evaluation?

A custody evaluation is a formal assessment conducted at the request of a court or by agreement of the parents. It involves a thorough examination of family dynamics, parenting abilities, and the needs of the child. The goal is to provide a clear, neutral recommendation regarding custody and parenting time arrangements.

What to Expect

During a custody evaluation, I conduct:

  • Individual interviews with each parent or guardian
  • Observations of parent-child interactions
  • Age-appropriate interviews with the child, when appropriate
  • Review of relevant records, such as school or medical reports
  • Collateral interviews with teachers, therapists, or other key adults in the child’s life

All evaluations are conducted with sensitivity to the emotional needs of children and families, while maintaining strict professional standards for fairness and neutrality.

How the Evaluation Helps

My evaluation provides the court with a detailed report that outlines the findings and offers recommendations tailored to support the child’s emotional and psychological well-being. While the court makes the final decision, the evaluation serves as a critical piece of expert evidence to guide that process.

A Child-Centered Approach

Every child and family is unique. My approach emphasizes the child’s developmental stage, emotional health, and need for stability and safety. I strive to ensure that children feel heard in a way that is respectful and appropriate to their age, while helping parents and legal teams understand what arrangement is most supportive for the child’s future.
